Local MP Fights to Save Seaford War Memorial

Local MP Norman Baker has today launched his own campaign to save a Seaford Chapel and War Memorial from demolition.

St. Mary's chapel is an historic site containing many unique features including a 14th Century font and 17th Century altar as well as a memorial to local soldiers who died in the Second World War. The current owners of the site, Westminster Health Care Ltd., plan to redevelop the site in order to build a new residential care complex.

Mr Baker stated, "St. Mary's Chapel is an important historical chapel in its own right. It also contains a memorial to local people who gave their lives in the Second World War. I vigorously oppose its demolition. I am pushing for the site to be made a listed property so it cannot be demolished. I have also written to Westminster Health Ltd. and asked them if the chapel could be made a feature of any new development.

The local/MP said: "It would be a tremendous loss to the community if this chapel was demolished and a lack of respect to those who died to protect our freedom.
