I am writing to you regarding the proposed development of the St. Mary's Nursing Home and Chapel. Several constituents have raised concern with me regarding the potential demolition of the chapel and the war memorial held within it.

I do not oppose the development of the nursing home area, however I would be very concerned that if the chapel was to be lost as part of any redevelopment. Could you please outline for me your proposed plans for this and let me know if and when you will be applying for planning permission.

I would also like you to consider the option of keeping and assisting in the restoration of the chapel as a feature of any new development. The building has a lot of potential in this respect, and this solution would certainly satisfy all concerned. In any case then I would like to know the details of any plan you might have to maintain the memorial to those who gave their lives in Second World War.

If you would like to discuss these issues personally please call my Westminster Assistant Simon Wilmot on 0207 219 2864 to arrange a time when we could meet in either Lewes or London.

I look forward to your swift response.

Yours sincerely

Norman Baker MP for Lewes
